Oh, if we can only be sure that Jesus really lived this way, then we would indeed have the perfect role model. How can anyone aspire to be like the holy, infallable God/Man found through most of the interpretations of the gospels?

I would prefer to see new interpretations, perhaps one like this, that can allow for lapsed Catholics (andand those of other faiths) who are questioning the early church politics and the exclusivity preached as "gospel.".

I don't want to belong to a club that says that Christianity is the "only" way to find God. I want God to be there for all.

Thanks for the review!

Yeah, it made sense. I think that's an interesting example: the guy in the cave. the Word is written on our hearts, isn't it?! What a wonderful thing!

Thanks for the reply too! :)

BYW, It's the Watchtower Organization that places these standards on the Jehovah's Witnesses so I don't mean any direct arugment toward them. I think most of the JW's are sincere people who have been mislead. The Watchtower is quite literal with the name Jehovah. I've been meeting with a few JW women at a weekly Bible study at my house and they insist (rather politely) I call the Lord God, Jehovah, in prayer and petition or he's not going to know he's being addressed?!

I'm wholeheartedly agreeing with you; "There is no way anyone can put natural human limitations or standards on a supernatural, all powerful God. Doing so is surely a very dangerous thing." I learned that the hard way by putting my own expectations and perceived accountability on God.

I would say that those two excerts from "What does the Bible Really Teach" could be taken less literally; that those that do not know "His name" could mean, know God and/or Christ personally, are lost. I don't know much about Jehovah's Witnesses beliefs, but I think I know enough to understand that they DO mean what say that literally, so I won't make the argument.

But left me challenge that those that do not know His name, in a literal sense, are potentially hindered in their growth with him. It's not as if He is withholding that information, so not to know in this day and age means you're not actively seeking, and probably don't have a fulfilling, if any, relationship with Him. And yet, there are a number of "educated" or "privy" individuals - agnostic scholars, laymen, atheists, etc - that "know" the name and yet some fellow in a cave in Africa with a hole and yearning in his heart for something that he can't name (daresay our Lord love?), might feel some movement in his heart and though he doesn't have a personal relationship with God, he's on a better footing than those in the "know" that choose to neglect that information!

Did that make sense?

You're welcome! Glad it was helpful.
These notes are just a summary of some chapters on prayer by John Calvin, in his 'Institutes'. I'd recommend studying them - a few hundred years old so not the easiest read, but full of absolute gold.
