I’m an adult child of an alcholic (ACOA). What does that mean? I am adult whose life was negatively affected as a result of being raised by an alcoholic and/or dysfunctional family. This doesn’t mean I sit around and feel sorry for myself but I am in the process of getting help learning to recognize the hurts, habits and hang-ups I’ve developed as a result of my dysfunctional childhood.

Even with the most valiant efforts to be normal and well-adjusted I’ve always felt like part of me is broken, unbalanced. Not knowing or understanding the cause of this problem has prevented the proper healing so sometimes this part of my life festers and infects the good parts of me and my life. During a recent “flare-up” I desperately cried out to God for help. It came in an unconventional way……….but it came. Now the healing process has begun.
